What 350 GBHS has done in the past year
Ode to Earth
Organized by our founder Haleya Hoang and our partner organization 350 Sacramento, Ode to Earth was a music and arts festival allowing multiple organizations to come together and celebrate the climate justice movement. This was our first appearance as a club, and we raised over $400 at our table.
“I'm very concerned about leaving this earth to my two daughters, and what's going to happen with things getting warmer, the Oceans getting hotter and our whole ecosystem. I don't understand how everybody doesn't see that it's happening. I really don't. So something like this is amazing.” Melissa Steurer from Third Act Sacramento.
Climate Justice Festival
Organized by Sacramento Climate Coalition, the Climate Justice Festival was a celebration of the community and connections that keep the climate justice movement alive. Our club created a climate change-themed obstacle course for kids to go through and see examples of dangerous situations our climate is being put in. Our members Haleya and Anushka also MCed the event!
“This is a really important (event) because it does bring the different climate organizations and the different social justice organizations together. So not only are we getting to interact with the general community, but we’re also connecting with each other and building partnerships.” Patricia Moore, the Executive Director of 350 Sacramento.
Rooted In Resilience
An event organized to bring together the placer community, Rooted in Resilience allowed us to demonstrate the impact of youth voices in our movement. We heard from several speakers, including our very own Haleya who spoke about the impact we plan to make through our club, as well as the importance of our voices as teenagers. Through tabling and selling our vice president, Fynn’s, photos we raised $220. This money will go toward our school garden and compost program coming soon.
